This blackened bronze wine vessel is likely a mid-century reproduction of similar wine vessels or cups that were used for ceremonial and ritual purposes beginning in the Chinese Song Dynasty. It is also a Ding cauldron which or three or four-legged bronze or brass cauldrons that held important religious and cultural significance. The top of the vessel has curved lip allowing you to drink while the opposite side of the cup curves to a sharp point. A tower with a cap is on either side of the top lip. There is a Lion Foo dog head handle for you to grasp the vessel. There are several repeating etched and carved patterns on the outside of the vessel. Near the top lip of the bowl is a repeating pattern of clouds and large swirls. Underneath this pattern smaller swirls throughout the vessel or cup. The vessel has tripod (three) legs. The inside of the bronze vessel is blackened. The bottom underside of the vessel is a maker's mark or chop mark with a cup or vessel inside a circle. We found an identical cup selling online for nearly $700.
