Item Description

Vintage Batik Framed Artwork Depicting An African Village Child With A Water Carrying Gourd

No painting done here. This artwork was all done using the wax-resist dying process of batik-making. Batik is an ancient fabric wax-resist dyeing tradition of Java, Indonesia. The art of batik is most highly developed and some of the best batiks in the world still made there. In Java, all the materials for the process are readily available – cotton and beeswax and plants from which different vegetable dyes are made.

Notes: Textile is in Excellent condition because it were framed and stored in a cool, dry, dark place. However, frame is original and will most likely need updating. Matte shows some age related discoloration. See images.
