Vintage Apothecary Rock And Rye Whiskey Bottle: Whiskey And Rock Candy. Circa 1870-1880.

This vintage Rock and Rye apothecary style bottle is for storing your favorite rye whiskey as well as keeping your favorite rock candy. This bottle came from an apothecary circa the 1870's - 1880's. A double decker thriller, this is a great gift for any candy or rye whiskey enthusiast. As you can see this is in great shape, no ships, flea bites, or cracks and also no whiskey :/ Measuring 9 1/2” tall by 3 3/8” wide by 3 1/2” deep.
Like many distilled spirits, particularly herbal liqueurs, rock and rye was used as a medicinal tonic. It was a regular fixture in pharmacies around the 1870's but reclassified as a distilled spirit in 1883. Around the turn of the 20th century, some makers once again added claims that it would cure colds, congestion, and all sorts of illnesses. Marketing it as a remedy was often a way to get around the higher taxes associated with recreational alcohol and the growing temperance movement. However, there is no cure for the common cold, and it is unlikely that drinking rock and rye is a remedy for any ailment.
