This hand-colored etching, titled The Right of Way, features an intricate legal scene by W. Dendy Sadler (1854–1923), a master of Victorian genre painting. The work portrays an animated discussion between two gentlemen and a lady over maps and legal documents, set in a richly detailed interior with period furniture and décor. Etched by the acclaimed James Dobie (1849–1923) and published by Raphael Tuck & Sons, this piece exemplifies the humor and social commentary for which Sadler is celebrated. Framed and hand-colored, the etching highlights the artist's eye for storytelling and fine detail.
Notes: The artwork itself is in excellent condition with no apparent fading or discoloration. The frame is sturdy but shows minor scuff marks consistent with age. The backing is clean and secure, with intact hanging hardware. The glass protecting the print is free from cracks or chips.
