Item Description

A wonderful map done in the studios of the National Geographic magazine in April 1939. Albert H Bumstead was Chief cartographer. It was designed by C.E. Riddiford. It is titled: The reaches of New York City. There are beautiful illustrations surrounding the map including a great City View at top left. Important figures from the area include: Alexander Hamilton, Robert Fulton, Thomas Edison, Eli Whitman, J A Roebling, Henry Hudson, Grover Cleveland and Theodore Roosevelt. They are pictured along with key architectural elements like Montauk Light, Brooklyn Bridge, Statue of Liberty, West Point, Rockefeller Center, the Hudson Palisades and Columbia University.
