Item Description

The Presidents The official White House Book of Gallery Portraits, 1903 Some foxing. Hardbound. 24 plates with titled tissue guards, marbled endpapers, 20 x 16 inches, leather covered boards with embossed gilt metal seal (hardbound). Covers are in very worn condition, although the metal embossed coat of arms on the front cover is in good condition. The leather of the spine is deteriorating with loss. The interior is in fair condition with light soiling and foxing to some pages. This book contains steel engravings of each President from Washington to McKinley accompanied by a one-page essay on the President by various famous writers of the day. This book contains a bookplate numbered 235 to Conrad Stern and dated February 20, 1903.
