This is a fantastic carving, artist signed and in excellent condition. A Japanese NETSUKE, carved from a natural material, centering upon a man kneeling over a wooden crate, a rabbit poking its' head out one end. The level of detail is amazing- the drape of his tunic, wood grain on the crate, expressive faces on both the rabbit and elderly man, and ornate decoration on his attire. Even the underside is fully carved. Artist signed. It has himotoshi on the back, used for tethering the netsuke to a cord for usage. Netsuke were used as part of one's attire, and held in place an inro carried on person. They were artistic expressions, created by master artists, often from generational families of carvers. Netsuke can achieve astronomical numbers at auction/on the open market. I have opened it low, considering the quality and condition.
