Stunning Antique TAISHO PERIOD Japanese Damascene Niello Cigarette Case- With Lighter And Fitted Box

A spectacular example of an early vintage/antique Japanese DAMASCENE/NIELLO cigarette case, presented with a lighter in fitted wooden case. The case dates to the late Taisho/early Showa period [circa 1920s], with a black enamel ground showcasing the finely realized decoration on the case front, rendered in real GOLD and SILVER overlay. The scene is evocative of early Japan, with pagodas, temples and bridges in the foreground, the crest of Mount Fuji in the distance. It is in excellent condition for being roughly 100 years old. The lighter is from the late 1940s, a later addition [along with the wooden case, for presentation]. Original owner's grandfather acquired it while on business in Japan just after World War 2. Similar examples command top $$$ on the open market, but being opened for $1 with no reserve.
