A fantastic Public Works Arts Program of the 1930s New Deal Era, this is an historical piece representative of the program. The full quote on the bottom: War is so brutish that it becomes beats rather than men. It stops the course of all justice and honesty.
Provenance of the Erasmus:
Right after the great depression, the government started funding works of art in an effort to help starving artists. The artist who created Erasmus was funded by the TVA. This work of art hung in Judge Opper's chambers until he retired when it was given to the family.
