Item Description

Stripes and brush strokes draw the eye in to an area on thick paint. Sight size is about 17&1/4" x 14&1/2". There is a linen ground and a thick wood frame.

The website Aware Women Artists has this to say about Anna Staritsky: "Ukrainian-born Belgian-French painter, sculptor and engraver." Starisky had a life filled with trauma - a lifelong disease that affected her leg and a marriage that would end after a year with her husband in a concentration camp. All this life experience can be seen and felt in the broad evocative strokes of her paintings which are at once raw and lyrical. Pure emotion on canvas. This piece is signed lower left and dated '62.
