This incredible African artifact was likely meant for a younger warrior, given the size and coloring. Pigment dyes from clay, burnt debris from gourds and other sources, as well as blood, were used to decorate the hides of cow or buffalo. Considering the age, which could be mid-late 20th century, the shield is in great condition and has been very well preserved.
Consistent with age and use.
