Item Description

This beautiful oil painting by Listed equine artist Richard Stone Reeves was lovingly
commissioned by the homeowner of his Thoroughbred Champion race horse Fly So Free.
It is signed and dated 1995. A beautiful image that captures the elegant power of this majestic creature. Framed in a wood gilt frame with inscribed brass plaque along bottom of frame.
Condition Very Good. For the equine lover or collector.

ABOUT ARTIST Richard Stone Reeves
(B Nov. 6, 1919, Manhattan / D October 2005 Greenport, New York)
Known as a portrait painter of horses, Richard Reeves was born in Manhattan, New York and settled in Greenport after having a studio for many years in Oldwick, New Jersey. From there he traveled widely to depict his subject matter. Horse-portrait commissions came from many prestigious horse owners such as Paul Mellon, W. Averill Harriman, Allaire duPont, Aga Khan and Harry Guggenheim and subjects included race winners Seattle Slew, Secretariat, Buckpasser and Spectacular Bid.
His mediums were oil on canvas and his style has been described as "neo-Romantic"...

ABOUT FLY SO FREE
The Chestnut Colt was a grandson of US Racing Hall of Fame inductee Damascus and was owned by New York City Broadway producer and music publisher Tommy Valando and his wife Elizabeth. Fly So Free won the 1990 Breeders Cup Juvenile and the 1991 Florida Derby and was 1990’s U.S. Champion 2-Year Old Colt.
