Antique Fine Service butter chiller serving bowl - Very ornately decorated with added flowers designs and skilled craftsmanship along with lid & spoon rest.
Mermod Jaccard & Co. was a St. Louis, MO retail jewelry store that also sold silver. The company dates back to about 1845. Mermod Jaccard silver was made by various silver manufacturers, but the store marked pieces with its own name. The firm became Mermod, Jaccard & King in 1905, so this piece was made before 1905. It is marked # 3213.
The bowl includes a middle glass layer that keeps the chef-created butter rosettes / or pats separated and dry above the wet ice while staying chilled directly above the ice chip chamber. Notice the lovely finial atop the lid, the side handles and the footed base. The previous owners have added a "marriage" of a different maker's spoon while this should have a "fork or small shovel"- shaped tool to lift up the butter pats - not a curved spoon which in this listing was made by 1847 Rogers Bros. Good luck in your bidding for this special and rare piece sold in St. Louis by Mermod Jaccard & Co.
