This is a very rare find! A metal exterior houses the reverse painted glass that has experienced some paint crazing and chipping due to age however is legible when lit or when off. The interior has a dial in the shape of a ships wheel that rotates to the left and to the right to emulate a real helm spinning or a rocking ship. Its a very unique and extremely hard to find item as the company would have only made a few of them of which I cant imagine many survived.

Clipper Craft Clothing started as Trimount Clothes, a family owned Boston company run by the Shapiros. In 1926 when Arnold Baxt joined them a suit with a spare pair of pants cost $17. By 1972, when the company, since renamed Trimount Clipper Craft Clothing was bought by the Cliftex Corporation, $17 was a lunch tip and Arnold Baxt was senior vice-president.
The company sponsored episodes of the radio series The New Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes on the NBC, Mutual and ABC networks from 28 Sept 1947 to 6 Jun 1949 (season's thirteen and fourteen). On Mutual it went out at 7.00 on Sunday evening for season thirteen but switched to 8.30 on Monday evening for season fourteen. The first episode sponsored by TCCC was The Dog Who Changed His Mind, with John Stanley playing Holmes and Alfred Shirley as Dr. Watson. They continued to sponsor broadcasting until at least 1976 when they sponsored a number of episodes of the game show, Family Feud, hosted by Richard Dawson.
