Item Description

ORIGINAL, 1897 edition of "The Art Of William Morris" By Aymer Vallence, published by Bell & Sons: London (1897) and printed at Chiswick Press. This book is hand numbered 197 of a limited pressing of 220 copies, of which only 210 were sold. Morris' better known works are depicted through the 40 colored plates, together with several b&w ones (with paper guards) - and they are absolutely exquisite.

Clothbound, boards present - front board has detatched from binding. Spine has 5 raised bands and lettering in dark blue. Spine's cover is intact but has separated from sewn binding, with a small tear at seam of front cover. Binding is intact with a couple of small separations. Text pages are printed on thick deckled edged paper that has discolored on edges with age. Plate pages are printed on a thinner paper stock with smooth finish. There is minor foxing/browning seen throughout text pages (plates pages not impacted).
