RARE Circa 200 A.D. SAN SEBASTIAN STYLE NAYARIT SEATED EFFIGY FIGURE- Original Polychrome Paint

A RARE original PRE-COLUMBIAN NAYARIT EFFIGY, from an ancient former culture in the San Sebastian region of Mexico [the NAYARIT people]. It is a seated figure, with exaggerated features and splayed legs. Impressive polychrome paint, which showcases fine decoration in several areas. It dates between 100-200 A.D. and is in a fine state of preservation considering age. Acquired several years back from a prominent New Haven County collection. Figures of this nature are often referred to as SAN SEBASTIAN 'REDS', for the color of clay used in their creation. No losses or repairs, a top-quality example!
