Original Watercolor by artist Martha Guthrie of Pat O'Brien's place named the "Mint Julep" in New Orleans. Framed & Signed. Guthrie mastered the beautiful use of pleasing colors in her medium of rose, pinks, & greens in this painting! Martha Guthrie's business card of the period is attached on the back side: "WATERCOLORS; STUDIO, NEW ORLEANS , LA". Pat O'Brien's Bar is a bar located in New Orleans that began operation as a legal liquor establishment on December 3, 1933 in the French Quarter. Before that, during Prohibition the bar was known as Mr. O'Brien's Club Tipperary; the password "storm's brewin'" was required to gain entrance to the establishment. Pat O'Brien's is home to the original flaming fountain (located in the courtyard) and the hurricane cocktail. There is also a piano bar, featuring twin "dueling" pianos where local entertainers take song requests. The dueling piano bar is thought to be the first of its kind.
New Orleans artist Martha Guthrie's still life paintings are watercolors of superb compositions with an exacting attention to detail. Guthrie has exhibited at many national and regional juried shows in Louisiana, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas. She also exhibited with the Audubon Artists in New York City and the Adirondacks National Exhibition of American Watercolors in Old Forge, New York. Guthrie credits her best training to the 15 years she spent painting on Jackson Square in the French Quarter.
