Antique cap/hat - blue wool, leather brim and band, cloth lining, brass button, heavy stitched initials, no manufacturer name, very small size - 19” circumference on the interior.
This cap has PSC stitched on the front and an eagle adorns the button. I could not find the school name that matched these initials, but it is most likely from one of the many military academies in the US during the 19th century. The students wore uniforms that mimicked the uniforms of the current military design. This one seems to be Civil War or just Post Civil War circa 1870. Please view the last photo found online showing a student wearing this style of slanted cap. This photo is not included as part of this lot. It is just here for an example.
As noted above, this is a very small cap and would only fit a small child. It is a great display piece.
Notes: One brass button is missing, braid is missing, some wear on leather but not dried out, some wear on the interior but no holes or tears, no odours.
Consistent with age and use.
