Sig Arno was a comedian, theatre and film actor who was also a successful portrait painter. He appeared in the Broadway production of ‘Song of Norway’ and met fellow company member
Arthur Kay who was the musical director. This lead to Arno painting this portrait of Mr Kay.
Arthur Kay was a composer, conductor and cellist who scored many films of the silent and sound eras. He also worked in theatre including being the director of the Los Angeles Civic Light Opera where ‘Song of Norway’ originated.
Frame is ornate wood and gilt

Included with your purchase is an original Playbill from the production of ‘Song of Norway’ that featured both Kay and Arno.
Notes: Please view the numerous, detailed photos for an accurate appraisal of this item's condition. This 75 year old painting has areas of discoloration, with a white haze of oxidation and staining. There are numerous cracks on the surface with some paint loss, extensive craquelure, and scratches. There is flaking in the upper right corner. In the upper right corner, the canvas is pushed in and dented where the stretcher strips join. The back is very dusty and shows staining. The large gold frame has chipping and gesso loss, particularly along the top edge.
