IMPRESSIVE 50-Million-Year-Old Fossil KNIGHTIA FISH MASS MORTALITY PLATE- GREEN RIVER FORMATION, WYOMING

A substantial and quite impressive fossil mass mortality plate, from the Green River Formation in Wyoming. 50-million-year-old, embedded in the sandstone matrix/slab are 35+ KNIGHTIA fish, which proliferated the shallow lakes and rivers once abundant in the now arid region. A 'Mass Mortality' or 'Extinction' plate occurs when the water source dries up, leading to a mass extinction of the fish and invertebrates that called the water home. That is why they are congregated so tightly together, clinging to the last water until it evaporated. It measures 20.5" across, by 12.5" in height . . .quite a large example. Condition is excellent. It is expertly prepared, every detail on each fish clearly visible, including all fins, vertebrae, ribs, and skull/teeth. I used a $50 bill to show large scale of the matrix. Similar examples go well into 4-figure territory on fossil sites. We are opening it for $1 with NO RESERVE. Not a fossil seen often outside of museums and large fossil shows [even then . . .they are priced at $1500-2000+].
