One of the finest items we have offered- an original EDO PERIOD [circa 1830] 4-case lacquered Japanese INRO, by master NAKAOJI MOEI. It came from a prominent private collection, and has been in my possession for years. Black lacquer ground with gold decoration [from his other works, actual gold was used in the maki lacquer]. It is in amazing condition, well cared for throughout its' long life [it is close to 200 years in age]. It has a period correct OJIME bead [sinch], with high relief enamel flowers. The netsuke is signed, MEIJI PERIOD [circa 1890], likely added by the original owner in the late 19th century. It is a fantastic interpretation of a grouse, and quite valuable on its' own. MOEI inro have sold at Christie's Auction [one of the best houses in the world] for $8480- and $9600-, and another example sold at Bonhams $4800 euro [$5200 USD]. Both were just the inro, without netsuke, ojime and cording. i have added a modest reserve to protect investment.
