Item Description

An amazing vintage carved bone carpet ball, by far the largest example we have even come across [normally 6" in diameter or less], measuring 12.5" in diameter. For perspective, roughly 1 1/2 times the size of an NBA regulation basketball by volume [Huge!]. The entire exterior has been carved in a twisting design, masterfully done and undoubtedly labor-intensive. Carved from oxen bone, quite heavy due to material. Not carved from a regulated material, in case the bidder was curious, and perfectly legal to sell anywhere. Guaranteed to be from a non-regulated material. Condition is excellent. A stunning decorator piece, that commands attention in any room it is placed.
