Paul Cezanne was one of the most fascinating figures of the Post-Impressionist era. His work is endlessly dynamic, even when the simplest subjects are featured, as seen in "Le Vase Bleu." Though it's a typical floral still life painting, this work features a striking use of color and form. It's clear that Impressionist styles influenced his technique, yet you can also see how Cezanne put his distinctive stamp on this painting. The small brushstrokes and flat planes are iconic features of work by Cezanne that would go on to influence artists like Picasso and Metzinger.
