This lithographic poster after Bernard Buffet was executed by Charles Sorlier in 1969, under the artist's supervision for the exhibition "Les Peintres Témoins de Leurs Temps". This salon was an annual art exhibition organized by Isis Kischka for the first time in 1951. It would take place at the Gallieria Museum in Paris and would be centered on a new theme every year. This "Salon" was in existence until 1983.
At the age of thirty in 1958, Bernard Buffet was one of the most famous painters in France. Because of his financial success, Bernard Buffet’s popularity was attacked by the left-leaning cultural pundits of the time. Refusing to abide with the image of a bohemian artist, his status decreased and state support for his work mostly vanished until his death. However, there has been a tremendous resurgence of interest in his work, especially since his retrospective at the Paris Museum of Modern Art in 2017.
