I will give you the readers digest version of these vintage Disneyland / Yale & Towne keys . . . first of all for those of you that don’t know Yale & Towne Lock Manufacturing company was located in Stamford,CT . . .they started in 1904 and I believe they closed in the 1970s . . . they were in the south end of Stamford (they occupied those huge buildings down near where Fairway Market was) . . . it was a major employer for thousands of local residents . . .for those of you out there that attended tag / estate sales in Stamford (and surrounding towns) in the 1980s / 90s / 2000s . . . it was VERY common to come across an estate sale of a former Yale employee and find brand new Yale locks that were vintage but brand new (and they were 30 - 40 - 50 years old) . . . in 2012 we purchased the estate of a former Yale employee and while cleaning out the basement we found this big box of these Disneyland keys . . .never used . . .uncut . . . gold plated brass keys that were made to commemorate the opening of Disneyland in California in 1955 . . . it was quite a score at the time . . .we started listing them on eBay and they were selling between $75 and $150 PER KEY ! ! . . we would put on a few at a time here and there . . we would wait a little while before we would list more . . (this was in 2012 & 2013) . . . . by 2014 we had sold all of them well over 150 (a lot of people were buying several at a time) . . . then around June / July of 2015 (which was the 60th anniversary of Disneyland) . . . the keys started showing up back on eBay . . .people would put the keys in little presentation cases . . . .some were making nice wooden mounts for them . . . and they would list them back on eBay . . . AND THEY WERE SELLING BETWEEN $300-$400 and they were selling like hotcakes . . . people were contacting me asked me if I had any more of them (and of course I didn’t) . . .a few weeks ago we were re-organizing my warehouse and I found a handful of the keys . . .just for the heck of it I went on eBay to see If any of these Disneyland keys were on there and sure enough there was one . . . .it’s sold recently for $500 so I figured I’d try one here on Clearing House
