Large Vintage AFRICAN WATER BUFFALO MOUNTED HORNS WITH CAP- Old Hunting Trophy

An impressive rack, from one of Africa's 'Big 5'- the African Cape or Water Buffalo. The animal can weigh over a ton, and this rack came from a larger animal, measuring 29" across. VERY heavy, because it includes the cap [skull minus jaws], and Cape Buffalo have dense horns and growths. The horns are used during mating, and more importantly to protect it from predators [lions are the only animal brave enough to take one on]. Condition is excellent, a bit dusty but damage free. It is mounted on a hardwood shield, and the cap is wrapped in tanned suede leather. It is an impressive taxidermy mount! Low reserve, a fraction of what they sell for on the open market.
