It has a brass dovetail seam, large hollow copper handle with a brass seam which is attached to the main body of the jug with copper rivets. Small brass handle on the side, again attached with copper rivets, which is impressed with the name of the maker and the capacity. Around the top of the jug are two lead customs seals.There are bands of lead around the neck and where the foot is attached to the main body.
Research shows that J McNaughton was a coppersmith in Edinburgh in the early to mid 1800s.

The body of the jug ~ approx 15" D
Front to back including the handle ~ approx 16"
Diameter of base ~ 13½ inches
Height to the top of handle ~ 18½ inches
The jug is in good overall vintage condition with usual dents and knocks of age.
Notes: Dings, marks and finish issues consistent with age. Heavy!
