Joan Miro - Equinox - Limited Edition Lithograph - Hand Numbered & Plate Signed

Joan Miró Equinoxe, (Equinox), 1967 is known to be Joan Miró most greatest and sought after ecthing, aquatint with carborundum. Know as his premier work, this s artwork is a colorful and highly energetic piece composed of visual elements to illustrate the instant in time where the Earth’s equator passes under the sun. On the top of the piece, a bright blue outlines the central subject matter, enveloping a black oval that intern contained a large bright yellow area on the left and symbol-like elements in the center and right. Floating stars and spots in various colors play around the edges of this central globular shape and lend a cheerful and lighthearted energy to the work. The background of the top portion is white and enhances the abstracted landscape to fully appreciate the chromatic and vibrant poetic visual elements. The lower portion, a dramatic black expanse divided by a central red-and-white element, supports the fanciful images above. These organic shapes and lines, so masterfully executed, exhibit the use of printmaking techniques to convey painterly aspects and brushstrokes.

Created in 1967, this color etching, aquatint and carborundum is hand signed by Joan Miró (Barcelona, 1893 – Palma, 1983) in pencil in the lower right margin and marked H.C. (Hors d’Commerce or artist’s proof) in pencil in the lower left, aside from the numbered edition of 75; published by Maeght éditeur, Paris; printed by Arte Adrien Maeght, Paris.
