Item Description

WARRINGTON COLESCOTT [well listed, 1921-2018] was best known for his edgy, humorous, satirical and often tragic body of work, with biting subject matter. He was not afraid to dabble on the darker side of American life, and this FANTASTIC drypoint etching is a perfect example.
It is titled 'Last Look up State Street from Bascom Hill', and centers upon the famed downtown/university neighborhood in Madison, Wisconson. The ORPHEUM THEATER is on full display, surrounded by all manner of debauchery. A violinist is seducing a topless woman, on the bus are a skeleton, witch and devil. There are coloroful characters, including 'Fight ME BOB', 'Cham' and 'Wilfer'. A Frankenstein-esque topless woman with dagger like teeth is screaming in the foreground, and a creepy man in mesquerade mask is having his way with a woman with frizzled blonde hair. Every view reveals another travesty haha.
My guess is that it is Warrington's interpretation of a Halloween celebration in downtown Madison, WI. He was an outsider of sorts, and definitely had a distinctive style. That aside, his body of art is HIGHLY desirable with collectors, and command large sums of $$$.
This work is hand signed and dated on the righthand bottom, titled in the middle, with the edition size on the left. It is #10 of only 25 made, which is a small edition even for Colescott [normally 75-100 in his editions]. Condition is excellent. Comes gallery framed. VERY LOW reserve, just ot protect investment.

We are willing to ship small and manageable items only. If it can fit in a large USPS Priority flat rate box [or close thereto], then it is shippable.
