Volumes 1-10 are Red; 11-20 are Blue; 21-30 are Green; 31-40 are Purple; 41-50. This set is considered a key collection of works, encompassing the most significant writing in Western philosophy and literature. The set's catchphrase was "Eliot's Five-Foot Shelf" in honor of Harvard President Charles W. Eliot, the original editor of the first edition, which was published in 1909. That makes this the 2nd only edition, published in 1937. Each book has pebbled faux leather boards with slightly raised gilt bands on the spine.
