Freeman McFarlin was founded in the mid-1940s by businessman and established potter Gerald McFarlin and pottery apprentice Maynard Anthony Freeman. The former had already operated a series of successful Southern California pottery businesses since 1927, including Tudor Pottery, Rio Hondo, and El Monte-based McFarlin Potteries. On the other hand, Freeman was a former World War II soldier who had returned home dreaming of becoming a successful potter. The two brought out the best in each other, with one learning the ropes from the other. Freeman McFarlin was a mid-century American pottery brand. It excelled in serious depictions of animals, humans, and objects, although it occasionally manufactured anthropomorphic creatures with whimsical features. From its large and stately birds to heavily detailed horses, Freeman McFarlin opted to use distinct white and gold glazes that remain well-recognizable. Along with figurines, the company also produced tableware and decorative vessels. The California pottery brand closed its doors in 1986, but its products’ appeal still resonates with mid-century pottery collectors. https://www.worthpoint.com/dictionary/p/ceramics/na--united-states/freeman-mcfarlin-pottery
