This rather interesting carved folk art dog looks alot like the legendary Chupucabra (google it). Carved of a dense hardwood, plenty of graining and and the way in which the grain runs and curls in on itself, almost suggests it could have been carved from a burl, but we're not certain. It has nice contrasting colors much like burl wood often shows, so it is a possibility. Definitely has some age, but is completely unsigned far as we can tell. Measures over a foot long at 15"and is 5" high, crouching low, legs out in front, hind legs curled up underneath, anatomically correct (yup, he's a boy), and has that sneering teeth bared, ears back look of a dog who isn't too happy with you at the moment. An interesting piece of folklore? or the image of someone's rather homely looking dog? That's the beauty of art, what you see is what it means to you.
