On the front of the flag we see under the lettering Metzger Innung (butcher's guild) a lamb with a flag. This has been the so-called guild sign (Zunftzeichen) of butchers in Germany since the Middle Ages.
Underneath you can see the old coat of arms of the district Merzig. This district existed until October 1, 1946.
On the back of the flag you can see the "Deutsches Handwerkszeichen" (German Craft Mark).
The German Craft Mark was donated in 1934 by the President of the Reich, Paul von Hindenburg, for German craftsmanship.
In the yearbook of the German handicraft of 1935 it says
"The hammer that closes the open ring expresses how the unfinished material is completed from the handicraft to a beautiful, whole piece. The painting cross on the hammer, as an old symbol of creative events, points to the nature of German craftsmanship... Oak leaf and acorn, which are arranged together with the hammer handle in the form of the old Hagal rune, are intended to symbolize the insertion of craftsmanship into the national order of life. The colors of the sign are blue in gold, blue is the color of fidelity, consistency and clarity, gold is the color of perfection. Through clarity to perfection is the meaning of these colors.
From 1934 until 1994, the handicraft sign was the official emblem of German handicraft.
Due to the stylized swastikas in the surrounding border on the back of the flag, this flag must be from the period between 1934 and 1944.
