Beautiful antique English coffee table with demi-lune top forming a crescent shape.
This table was designed to be placed near a fireplace and used for after-dinner drinks. Such tables were also used by riders gathering outside for a drink before or after a hunt. George Hepplewhite published a design in 1793 for a 'Gentlemen's Social Table'.
The four outer legs have brass casters which work very well. The two leaves have a strong support when extended. The drop leafs are held up by swivel gate legs on both sides ( with both leafs up the depth is 37"). There is a beautiful and natural patina which adds to the character of this eye-catching coffee table.
Please see photos. As this is a church auction, the provenance and origin of the table are unknown.
