This charming tabletop sculpture is marked ICART along the base. It is quite heavy and stands a foot and a half high. A beautiful piece of artwork, "Mother and Child" are holding hands, depicting a tender moment of love between mother and daughter. Both are wearing flowing dresses, holding baskets of blooming flowers. It is a highly detailed piece. This is a heartwarming sculpture, depicted in the romantic style.
Louis Icart, 1888-1950, was a French artist. His drawings of glamorous women made his famous. He often treated his depictions in a numerous or erotic fashion. His studies of 1920s Paris life are fresh and thought provoking. Born in Toulouse, France in 1888, he embraced art at a young age. In 1907, at age 19, he moved to Paris to study painting, drawing, and printmaking. A major artist of the Art Deco period, his work was popular in both the United States and Europe throughout the 1920s and 1930s. Icart made over 500 engravings and illustrated more than 30 books. A prolific artist, his talent crossed disciplines. Besides his painting and drawing he was also a sculptor, graphic designer and a fashion designer at a time when the industry was undergoing a major change, moving away from 19th century conservatism. He died at home in Paris on December 20, 1950, at age 62.
