Item Description

This lidded pot is a truly unique find. The beautiful rose and ruby shades are typical of the Famille Rose Chinese pottery style, and are accentuated by the beautiful gold gilt and colorful Mille Fleur (Millions of Flowers) pattern. The details are hand painted in enamel, to create a cloisonné finish.
The pottery material itself is very thick and sturdy, with no translucency. It is not marked, and is therefore difficult to date. Chinese Famille Rose pottery was produced in China during the 1700’s and often exported to Europe. The style was then was widely replicated in the West during the 1800’s. This pot could easily fall into either of those two categories, without a marker to point you one way or the other.
