Extraordinary ceramic sculpture by renowned Italian artist, Gavino Tilocca, circa 1960. Depicting a couple in local Sardinian dress atop a horse wonderfully fitted out for a procession or ceremony.
Separate black wooden base not original to figurine.

About the artist:
Working in Sassari, Sardinia, Tilocca focused his considerable artistic talent on ceramics in the 1950's and 1960's and received many awards. He was one of the leading Italian ceramicists of his time. This figure displays many of the themes that Tilocca explored in this period: regional costumes and tradition, the majesty of animals, and the cultural relationship between people and animals.
