Item Description

Vintage Tetsubin style Cast Iron Tea Pot. Cast Iron Teapots like this from Japan are know as Tetsubin, these are often heirloom pieces and passed on through generations, this modern version was quite probably Chinese made.
The teapot has a pale powder blue matte finish with a bamboo design cast into the outside. Some of the blue finish has been removed, this is to highlight the bamboo stalk design. The pot has been enameled on the inside in shiny black, this is to protect the inside from developing rust, this would tend to happen if tea/water was left to sit in the pot for extended periods of time.
This Tetsubin style Teapot is about a 26oz. capacity. This measures over 5” inches tall with a nice sturdy handle, which does fold down flat against the pot for easy storing. It is almost 9” inches across including the spout. This pot also has an added tea filter basket made from stainless mesh.
Use this teapot to serve some traditional Japanese Sencha, Gen Mai Cha or Hojicha, although it has a somewhat modern look it could be used for a traditional Japanese Tea Ceremony, albeit with an added modern twist, of course it could also be used to serve teas from other lands too.
