Antique oil on canvas of a gentleman -
Frame is wood with gesso bad gilt.
‘Robert Boyd McKee’ is written in red on the canvas. I have not found any artist with this name so far but have found some noted individuals with that name. The gentleman is holding a rolled up document - a diploma? Perhaps, he is an academic. He might be a judge, lawyer, politician or a diplomat, but he certainly is a distinguished gentleman whose presence would grace any home.
Frame measures 33 1/2” x 38 1/2”
Canvas measures 25” x 30”
Notes: Please view the numerous, detailed photos for an accurate appraisal of this item's condition. This hundred year old painting has areas of discoloration, with a white haze of oxidation. There are numerous white flecks on the surface. The craquelure is more noticeable on on skin tones of the face and hands, than of the dark background. There seem to be a few pinholes visible on the front, particularly on the head. There is a streak of pink on the forehead. On the reverse, there are seven spots that look like fill from pinholes. The back is very dusty and shows staining. The large gold frame is in rough shape with extensive chipping, particularly along the bottom edge.
