This is a beautiful still life painted in 1907, Oil on Canvas by Reneé Rops. The painting is edged with gold gild wood frame. It depicts silverware holding an open melon and peaches decorated by leaf tendrils, distributed on a table. Renée Rops, was born in Liège in 1887 and died in New York in 1973. She was a Belgian painter specializing in the painting of still lifes of mostly flowers and then fruit of a very traditional approach. In 1907, she participated in the Ostend Art Center salon held at the Casino-Kursaal in Ostend where she exhibited paintings of Orchids and Arums and Geraniums. She married Gabriel Jadot, a senior civil servant, with whom she had a daughter, Lucie, born on May 2, 1908, who married an Iranian prince, Ali Shirazi Parvas. Thanks to this union, Renée Rops would frequent the American social society. She had a residence on Park Avenue in New York City and in Ridgefield, Connecticut. Renée Rops is the niece of the painter and lithographer Félicien Rops.
