Beautiful piece of 19th century Americana. Circa 1876: The J. & E. Stevens Company of Cromwell, Connecticut manufactured Henry W. Prouty’s Magic Bank in a number of color variations. This coin bank is interesting because it accepts coins in two ways: mechanically via the cashier on the reverse side of the bank’s entrance and manually through a coin slot on the bank’s roof. This piece does have some clear wear from age, but for something of this age its in very agreeable shape. The banker still turns, the roof is intact, and the door on the bottom to remove the coins is still there and functional.
