Antique apothecary bottle- beautiful & rare green ribbed glass bottle with block-formed stopper - the stored medicine per the label in this pharmacy bottle was: "Tincture of Camphore -CO". Its origina is from England circa 1870-1880's.
Paregoric, or camphorated tincture of opium, also known as tinctura opii camphorata, is a traditional patent medicine known for its antidiarrheal, antitussive, and analgesic properties. According to Goodman and Gilman's 1965 edition, "Paregoric is a 4% opium tincture in which there is also benzoic acid, camphor, and anise oil. ... Paregoric by tradition is used especially for children."
The bottle is approx 7" tall and the stopper adds another inch. It is 3 1/8" diameter.
I am not sure how they applied the foil label- it appears to be a convex curved piece of thin glass that on this bottle has a crack in it- but the label is fine. The glass bottle and stopper are in Good condition.
