A wonderful example of an ancient Pre-Columbian pottery effigy, from the NAYARIT CULTURE in Western Mexico, circa 250 A.D. [almost 1800 years old]. It is often referred to as a 'tomb figure', because though the culture did not have a written language, the Nayarit people produced many artistic wares and pottery vessels. Figures such as this were placed in burial sites, likely reverencial in nature. It is in a fine state of preservation, and was acquired mounted on a museum-style custom stand, from the prominent collection of a former university professor and historian. It stands 6.625" in height [not including stand . . .the figure is removeable]. Please refer to the photos for further details.
