Alfred Ainslie O’Brien (1912-1988) was a British artist known for his work in pencil, ink, watercolor, and oils. Born in Sunderland, Tyne and Wear, O’Brien initially pursued a career as a painter and decorator, which he credited with helping him in his later fine art work. His artistic repertoire included townscapes, landscapes, and portraits. During the 1960s and '70s, he gained popularity and national recognition for his paintings. In the late '60s, he even opened his own gallery in Sunderland. His work continues to be appreciated, and a retrospective of his art was held at the Bede Gallery in South Shields in 1989
