Item Description

Including:
- Poster produced by London & North Eastern Railway (LNER) to promote train services to Scarborough, North Yorkshire. Artwork by W. Smithson Broadhead (1888-1951), a painter of portraits and horses who, in addition to LNER, also designed joint posters for all four railway companies.
and
- Poster produced for London, Midland & Scottish Railway (LMSR) to promote rail services to Aberdeen. The poster shows the red 'Royal Highlander' travelling across a coastal landscape leaving a stream of prominent white smoke. The sea and cliffs are visible in the distance. Artwork by Norman Wilkinson (1878-1971), who studied art at Portsmouth and Southsea Schools of Art. A famous marine painter, he designed posters for several railway companies and organized the Royal Academy series of posters for the London & Midlands Railway (LMR) in 1924.
