Cornucopia: 9" x 4.25" x 4.5" - this piece appears to have been created prior to 1954 as shown by the clay coloring on the bottom and lack of numbering.
Medium Willow Leaf: 12.5" x 6.5" x 2", stamped Frankoma 226. Mold for this started in 1942
History of Frankoma Pottery: John Frank established Frank Potteries, Oklahoma's first commercial pottery, in Norman, OK in 1933 during the Great Depression. Frank, who had studied at the Chicago School of Art, was invited in 1927 by Dr. Oscar Jacobson to head the new ceramics department at the University of Oklahoma. In 1934 Frank incorporated and renamed his enterprise Frankoma Pottery.
Dating the Pottery: The coloring of the unglazed portion on the bottom of a piece can reveal its production era. Until 1954, Frankoma Pottery was made using light tan clay transported from the town of Ada, Oklahoma
Notes: Slight flake chips on two"legs" of the leaf bowl.(See last photo) Otherwise excellent condition.
Consistent with age and use.
