Item Description

View of New York entered according to act of Congress in the year 1849 F. Palmer Del. N. Currier litho. 17 x 12 The second one is dated 1860. This one is 11 years later than the first and the difference I can see is this one is identified as being entered by Currier & Ives instead of N. (nathan) Ives. Up until 1870, copyright registration was administered by the Clerks of the U.S. District Courts, and works were required to carry the printed legend, “Entered according to the act of Congress, in the year __, by __, in the clerk’s office of the district court of ___ .”
