Item Description

The Morton Salt Girl is the official mascot of Morton Salt. She was introduced in 1914 and is always seen holding an umbrella and a pouring salt container, referring to the company's slogan "When it rains, it pours" (referring to how Morton Salt stays free-flowing even in rainy weather after they began adding magnesium carbonate as an absorbing agent to their table salt in 1911 so it poured freely).

The Morton Salt Girl is a human female between the ages of 7 and 9 years old. She has always been seen wearing a dress and holding an umbrella and a pouring salt container in rainy weather. However, her hairstyle and dress have changed throughout the decades. Since 1968, she has had a bob haircut and worn a plain dress. Up until 1941, she was colored in only blue and white, yellow was added to her color scheme that year and has remained since. The most recent version of the girl was introduced in 2014 for the character's 100th anniversary and is a cleaner version of the 1968 girl.

Morton Salt is an American food company producing salt for food, water conditioning, industrial, agricultural, and road/highway use. Based in Chicago, the business is North America's leading producer and marketer of salt. It is a subsidiary of holding company Stone Canyon Industries Holdings, Inc.

The Danbury Mint is a world leader offering a variety of fine jewelry, coins and collectibles. The Danbury Mint was founded in Westport, Connecticut, by Ralph Glendinning and Ted Stanley in 1969, as a subsidiary of Glendinning Companies. Their first product was a series of medals commemorating the Apollo 11 moon landing

The Danbury Mint has since created many commemorative items—figurines, collector plates, dolls, die-cast cars, etc.—based on historical events and people. Examples include, Shirley Temple, Princess Diana, Barack Obama's inauguration, Corvettes, Hummel figurines, and gold Christmas ornaments.

Danbury's first sister division was formed in 1970 under the name Postal Commemorative Society, changed to PCS Stamps & Coins in 2006 to reflect a shift in the product mix from stamps to coin related products. In 1973, both divisions were incorporated as MBI. In 1975 Easton Press was formed as MBI's third division, and MBI was spun off from Glendinning Companies as a separate company.
