Fourth Impression, June, 1911 Edition of "The Spell Of Italy" by Caroline Atwater Mason with 50 illustrations and 400 pages. Electrotyped and printed at The Colonial Press, C.H. Simonds & Co., Boston, USA. Pull open Map after the Title Page. Gorgeous gold gilded printing on the front cover and spine. This must have been carefully stored because it is in excellent condition for a 110 year old antiquarian book. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This work was reproduced from the original artifact, and remains as true to the original work as possible. Wearied by his life as an administrator at the Duke’s court in Weimar, in 1786 Johann Wolfgang von Goethe departed unannounced in the middle of the night for what had been the destination of his imagination since childhood: Italy. His extended stay there dramatically affected his views of art, architecture, prose, poetry, and science. When he returned to Germany and Weimar, Goethe’s experiences translated into his life and work in ways that influenced countless others as they developed Germany’s own brand of high culture.
An original owner placed an Ex Libris / bookplate to keep his name on the inside front cover.
