Item Description

From Johnson's New Illustrated Family Atlas, 1860 Plate #59, these maps provided a snapshot of the developing country and expansion of RR lines. The cartographer is Alvin Jewett Johnson (1827-1884) who started out as a traveling salesman selling books but then moved to NYC in 1857 and worked with J.H. Colton in the publishing of atlases. 18" x 26", mounted on archival preservation fabric by 21.25" x 29.25". 3 great illustration really give this map amazing character!
